Who Are Mujahideen: Where They Came From?

The mujahideen are technical ones engaged in jihad. This can be anywhere and pretty much against anyone. Any time a holy figure of Islam declares a holy war, the people that respond are mujahideen. They fight in Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria, all over Africa, Indonesia pretty much anywhere Muslims get pissed off.

They are viewed positively in their culture and that’s pretty much what kids want to be when they grow up. Holy warriors on a mission from God. Too bad for them there’s nothing holy in killing innocent members of your own religion.

The term “mujahideen” actually means those who are involved in jihad, the holy war. Back in 1979, when the Soviets invaded Afghanistan, the CIA with Pakistan invoke Jihad to the angry Afghani people. They armed them to teeth to fight against Soviet forces. It wasn’t possible for anyone except for the US to take on USSR. And, that is how Mujahideen was created.

But, when Soviets left Afghanistan, there’d been a rivalry between militia groups. It was because they lacked a common enemy now and was armed heavily. The Mujahideen fought with one another which led to a civil war. Then, the Taliban came like the hero of that civil war. They defeated several groups to fight one another in the name of jihad. They, in fact, ruled Afghanistan!

But, they, even more, radicalized Afghan society. They developed laws that were impossible to even think by the non-Islamist countries. They took Afghanistan backward. They destroyed everything else that, they thought, Islam, forbids. Then, they rose in Pakistan too.
